^^ I realize that this photo makes it two sun-themed 52 Project photos in a row,
but this one was just too good to pass up. The other day as I was leaving our apartment
for work at 7:30 a.m., I noticed the sun rising, gloriously, over
the East River. (How could I not?!) There are very few times
in this wonderful city that you get to marvel at nature. Humanity? Sure.
Endurance? Sure. But nature? Not really unless you’re in a park.
At 7:30 in the morning, though, the city is just starting to come alive.
Don’t get me wrong — this city is alive at all times of the day, it’s just not quite
as alive at 7:30 in the morning as it is at other times. I have never in the
six years we’ve lived in this apartment seen the sun rising like that, perfectly
in line with our little stretch of street. All was quiet. The day was just beginning.
It was kind of nice.

A New Project for Weary Wanderer …
So I’ve been thinking a lot over the past couple of weeks about New Year’s resolutions, and trying to live my own best life. In all honesty I feel like I’ve been trying my best to do this for the past few years anyway. For example, for the past four years I’ve kept a running list of New Year’s goals in my diary that I update every time I achieve one of them. I’ve found this extremely helpful over the years to keep track of my achievements and strengths and weaknesses, to see what I’m doing well, and what areas I seem to be lacking in.
Of course keeping this blog has been a big part of that. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here — I am so thankful to have my own little corner of the internet where I can look back on photos and read memories of past travels. It’s just human nature that time helps us to forget things — but writing these things down will keep them forever at my fingertips.
Anyway, this is a roundabout way to get to the point of this blog, which is that I came across a little project one of my favorite bloggers has been doing for a few years now wherein she takes one photo a week of something going on in her life. She keeps track of them all throughout the year under the title “the 52 project”, and it’s an awesome way to capture even the smallest things that are happening in her everyday life. In the past I’ve struggled with ways to keep this blog fresh and interesting when I don’t have any travels to write about, and I think this will be one fun way to do that.
So here’s to a new blog series for 2014! And here’s to New Year’s resolutions, fresh starts and making the most out of every year (and every day!).
Bis bald, friends.
